special highlights from the past.

December 30th, 2000
Report: We were amazed at just how many people braved the snowstorm on
December 30th. The snow prevented us from opening the mid-block doors so we
used the main club doors as the entrance for the first time in Kurfew history.
Despite the snow, the boys and girls steadily trickled in and before we realized
there was quite a big party going on! Pictures of our pre-New Years event are
on the pics page!

Featuring CD giveaways courtesy of
plus...a special private holiday party for NJGYA (New Jersey Gay Young Adults)
Report: "Are you Naughty or Nice," was the question of the day as the December 23rd Holiday Party got under way. Some notable Kurfew "blasts from the past" were sighted at this reunion party of sorts, including former door boy Zach, drag princess Peppermint Gummybear (as voluptuous as ever!), and Karly Kani (jock turned drag queen...and now back to muscular jock!).

December 2nd was a birthday celebration for Anthony (of "Ask Jeff &

alcohol for the first time (yeah, right!), here Anthony (right) is shown blowing
out the candles to his birthday cake held by photo assistant James (left). The
popular Scott Henry (of Buzz D.C.) was the special main-floor guest DJ.

November
18th was our
launch party for "Wolves of Kromer," a new film narrated by Boy George.
The "Wolves" people, many who flew in
from London, must have been having too much fun on November 18th, because they
took a while to respond to our calls from the DJ booth. Eventually
we
were able to track down producer Will Gould (left) and co-writer Matthew Read
(far laft). The duo helped call off the winning ticket numbers, and award
the original wolf costumes used in the movie. The two winners are shown to the
right, with Ms. Electra verifying the tickets by, yes, manual recount.

The
November 11th record release party for Tsunami's new compilation on Kinetic

the packed room. The boys and girls danced in front of fluorescent backdrops
that draped the room (above), creating a wild effect. Tsunami's founders, including
John Emanuel (below) were on hand for the celebration.

Kurfew's
3rd Annual
HalloQueen
Party
"Miss it at your own Peril!"

$1,000 in prizes in 3 ghoulish categories + the sights and sounds of Tremblin'
Products. With special guest hostess Cleopatra!!!
Kurfew's HalloQueen party was most certainly THE place to be this Saturday, With one of the biggest Kurfew turnouts ever (the line snaked around the corner of the block!), and some of the most creative costumes yet, the real Halloween may as well have been on Saturday the 28th! Ginger Snaps, our guest drag hostess from Philadelphia, led the HalloQueen contest with our own Lady Q, and wowed the crowd with a Cleopatra getup than spanned nearly the width of the Kenny Scharf room itself! The judges included Ms. Electra, Angelique and Lady Q, with audience enthusiasm a core factor of the winning score. Click below to see the winners!
It was lots of fun seeing the "Kurfew Klassic" drag queens make a surprise guest appearance on 10/21, including the beloved Peppermint Gummybear, BeBe, Mabel-Lean, Koko, Features, and many others. Many in the Kurfew Krowd were talking about their plans for the upcoming HalloQueen event on 10/28, which promises to be one hell of a wild party!

The boys at our 10/14 Underworld party were particularly cute, as were the girls.
More importantly, the atmosphere was incredibly fun. We're seeing more and more
visitors from other cities, which adds more diversity and energy to the night!
The Underworld giveaways were a little more orderly than last week, with the
drag queens handing them out to the best dancers and to polite (read, "non-grabbing")
spectators on the Kurfew Kouches.

Another
crowded night greeted our launch party for the Sony Picture Classics film "The
Broken Hearts Club" this past Saturday, 10/7/00. We've been noticing a
lot of "old-time" Kurfew patrons coming back to check out the new
energy. We also bumped into a couple of well-known Hollywood movie directors
who were in town and decided that Kurfew was the place to check out. Suffice
to say that after visiting Kurfew they'll be making many more trips to New York
City!
